Full Moon in Aries: Courage to Change

The full moon in 27.5 degrees of Aries on Wednesday, October 20th at 9:57 a.m. CDT is an initiation of the sacred warrior. The energy is bold and dynamic. We cultivate the courage to make lasting changes. We rise to advocate for divine justice and open new pathways of devotion.

This full moon connects to the intentions we planted on the new moon in Aries on April 12th, 2021. We reflect on where we were last spring and what has been growing in our lives. This full moon offers a deeper understanding of who we are becoming and provides a new perspective on our life’s direction.

Aries as an Archetype

Aries is the archetype of heroic action. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is the breath that ignites life. Through breath, we experience life itself. To embody Aries energy is to become a vessel of light. It is the intuitive fire that creates our next steps. The Aries contract asks us to be willing to be fiery and engage in life with strength, assertiveness, and courage. Aries asks us to trust our instincts and come from our inner sovereignty, thus cultivating a leader. Aries is a pioneer, asked to forge their unique trail. Aries is the warrior that fights for the freedom to individuate or to advocate for the rights of others. This full moon offers us insights in the Aries area of our lives. We may need to cultivate our inner leader, advocate for our needs, or initiate something new.

The Libra-Aries Polarity

This full moon reminds us to consider how we are honoring ourselves in the context of our relationships. We seek to balance meeting our personal needs and attending to the needs of others. We desire to find interdependence in our partnerships. We reflect on the roles we identify with and take action steps to make changes. With the Sun conjunct Mars in Libra opposite the moon and square Pluto in Capricorn, we may feel intense pressure to change. We may need to assert ourselves in our relationships or renegotiate a contract. How might we state our needs and consider the needs of another? What role do we need to revisit or revise, or do we need to accept the agreement? If we aren’t taking the action that we desire, we will feel frustrated. We feel the passion and motivation to take action. Commit to the path that leads you to fulfillment. Where will you choose to feel most alive? Summon the courage to respond to life’s challenges and obstacles.

Empowerment

This full moon connects us to our relationship to power. We see the changes that we need to make. We are aware of where we have power and where we don’t. We feel a strong desire to change, but during this full moon, we become more aware of what we feel limits our freedom. We release what doesn’t serve us to emerge anew. To do this, we must get radically honest with ourselves about what isn’t working.

Cosmic Weather

This moon is charged with emotional intensity, combative energy, ambition, and control tactics. The moon in fiery, independent Aries is opposite the Sun in harmonious Libra. How do we assert our needs and desires and work together with others?

A T-square to regenerative Pluto in authoritative Capricorn indicates a challenge to authority or a transformation in one’s own personal power. We feel a need to dig deep to find the strength to build our aspirations. Mars in Libra is strategically seeking justice and collaboration and activating our feelings and motivations around power.

This full moon occurs after Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury have stationed direct. The energy is ripe for change. It is time to take the insights and awareness from the last several months and integrate them into our lives. We feel ready to break through any stagnant energy holding us back from our empowerment.

Also activated in this full moon is the square to Pluto and Eris. Eris is the goddess of discord and strife. She is the patron saint of chaotic creation. She is a disrupter who speaks out for the uninvited and marginalized. She provokes changes by upsetting our structures and paradigms so that we open to an entirely new perspective. To do this, we must face truths that we may not want to see. This square has been an ongoing dialogue this year and a catalyst for personal and collective growth. Themes around the shadow of capitalism and white supremacy have emerged so that we can face truths and systems that don’t serve the whole and begin to create a new structure. (Read my Eris in Retrograde article here.) Pluto is the energy of death, rebirth, and transformation. We feel the intense call to evolve, and we can harness this energy into dynamic creative projects.

Mercury is opposite Chiron in this lunation, offering the opportunity to derive healing from our words. Through self-reflection, we see how our wounding may be influencing what we say to others, and we can bring more awareness to how we impact others. Mercury in Libra opposite Chiron in Aries asks us to stand in our power and cultivate the courage to act from our integrity and stand for truth and justice. We may be called to advocate for the rights of others.

The dwarf planet, Haumea, the Hawaiian goddess of fertility and childbirth, is conjunct the Sun in Libra in this full moon chart. She is the mother goddess who birthed the islands of Hawaii and all of Hawaii’s deities. Haumea connects us to the extraordinary surge of creative energy that further amplifies the themes of rebirth, endings, and beginnings. What are we willing to let go of to meet the new?

Black Moon Lilith in Gemini, which is in a Grand Trine in Air with Mercury in Libra and Saturn in Aquarius, connects us to causes and communities to develop new social structures. We focus on implementing changes based on equality, sustainability, and collaboration.

The asteroid Parvati is also aligned with the full moon in Aries. The Hindu goddess of love, fertility, and devotion, Parvati teaches us about strength and power. She bestows us with the ability to transform and awaken ourselves through the power of love. We can see the divine in all that surrounds us. Through our practice of steadfast devotion, we learn that life is sacred. We transcend from mundane tasks to become witnesses to the divine waking up to itself. We become conscious of the divine through all we do and through our interactions. As we exercise devotion and connect to our inner power and strength, life becomes our teacher. This full moon is an invitation to rededicate ourselves to the practice of devotion and notice the ways in which we disconnect from our power.
