New Moon in Gemini: Finding Our Voice

The new moon in 9 degrees of Gemini on May 30th, 2022 (exact at 6:30 a.m. CDT) is seeding concepts and birthing innovative ideas to expand our minds and support our visions of the world.

We live in times of information overload, heightened polarities, and heartbreaking headlines. How can we tend to our nervous systems through times of devastation and not allow the heaviness to collapse our hearts? How can we honor our capacity to receive new information while practicing self care? This new moon is an invitation to slow down, practice discernment, and pay attention to how we listen to the world around us. How present are we to life? How does intuitive guidance make itself known to us? This is an important time of bringing awareness to how we perceive the information around us. What thoughts do we give our attention and energy to? Can we bring our focus to what matters most and allow it to inform our healing and next steps? Through presence and deep listening we connect to the cosmic rhythm that inspires new ideas and ignites creative solutions.

This new moon asks us to cut out distractions and unplug so that we can truly listen inward. It’s as though we need to shut down in order to reboot our nervous systems for a new system update. New direction, new learning, and karmic consequences serve as an opportunity to get clear on needed changes we will begin to implement over the next several weeks.

Setting New Intentions

This is the second new moon in the month of May. This is a time when the energy is especially potent, and we are invited to embrace our role as conscious co-creators and set intentions of what we wish to create in the world, specifically in the next six months.

These seeds will begin to thrive with the full moon on December 7th, 2022 and will grow to fruition with the moon on November 27th, 2023.

With the presence of a new Jupiter cycle and Mars cycle conjunct in Aries, we feel a new period emerging and a time to begin again. We trust our instincts to act and feel the fuel to initiate action toward our passions and goals. We are invited to pay close attention to what we are giving our attention to and make sure to fan the flame of what it is we truly wish to create in our lives. What we choose to ignite now may expand to great capacity with Jupiter’s influence in this new moon chart. We bring the energy to pioneer a new model and express our individual blueprint with much creativity and passion. This is a time to get creatively experimental and be willing to put our ideas into action.

Gemini as an Archetype

Gemini is the archetype of communication, learning, information, and having an open mind. This is the archetype that rules language, thus having the mental capacity to interpret situations and express their meaning quickly. Gemini is associated with playfulness, adaptability, mental perception, and the dissemination of information. They are like the pollinators of the zodiac whose innate curiosity inspires them to learn, gather, share information, and express their ideas. Gemini as an archetype is a powerful networker. They naturally want to share what they know and connect you to someone who is an expert on the question you are asking. Gemini is associated with the shape-shifter, the comedian, the orator, the journalist, the student, the teacher, and the twins.

Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury. Mercury served as a messenger for the gods and was the only god who was able to enter and return from the Underworld. (Usually once you were there, you couldn’t leave without negotiating some kind of a deal or finding someone to take your place.)

Gemini rules over the nervous system, lungs, arms, and hands. The nervous system helps all the parts of the body communicate with each other. It also adapts to changes inside and outside of the body. In a similar function, Gemini as an archetype tunes into the cosmic rhythm and flows and adapts to the changes of its environment. Through using our voice (speaking, signing, and writing) we can convey important messages and information to adapt to the shifting times. Through the connection and presence of all the parts of ourselves, we can restore our body’s vitality.

Embracing Our Duality

The Gemini constellation is made up of two twins: Castor and Pollux. In the mythology, Castor was King Tyndarus’ mortal son, whereas Pollux was Zeus’ immortal son. Castor and Pollux, being identical twins, were indistinguishable from one another in both their appearance and their behavior. Gemini represents duality within us and the ability to accept that we are both divine and human, immortal and mortal. Gemini at times can get locked in polarity and view life through the lens of black and white, good and bad, shadow and light. The work is to learn to see beyond the polarity and make space for the spectrum of color and tones of gray that truly make us whole. It is through effort to become self aware that we can recognise and accept our shadow.

The highest expression of Gemini is one who has embraced and found acceptance for all the parts of themselves and can serve as a guide for others to walk beside them through the Underworld as they face and integrate their shadow. They understand that in order to evolve they must embody their role as a messenger. Gemini uses advanced skills of observation and adaption to understand all sides of the story and quickly absorb new information. They open themselves to be a divine channel and trust their intuition on where they are guided to learn and to educate.

Gemini reminds us that knowledge is power and that we can use our strong mental agility to lead by example, educate others, and connect others to needed resources. It’s time to recognize the power of our voice and use it to stand in our truth and speak with depth and conviction. We can initiate powerful conversations and ask important questions. This new moon is a call to communicate with integrity and to have needed conversations for equality, justice, and reform.

“The truth is that in the face of adversity, the tool is only as useful as the hand that lifts it. And the hand is only as useful as the mind and heart that guide it.”

The Shadow of Gemini

The shadow of Gemini is gathering information without the true knowledge and integration of how it can be used to serve. We can be students forever without the esteem to step out and share what we learn. We are meant to open as a divine instrument to help inform, connect, or educate in some way. Gathering without a purpose or outlet can eventually become information hoarding and keep one from connection. Another shadow aspect of Gemini is dishonesty. Without the true wisdom to connect how information should be used, it becomes useless facts, saying things we don’t really mean, and random banter. Without authenticity and honesty, information can be used to lead astray or cause harm.

Gossip is another aspect of the Gemini archetype. Gossip is using the genuine desire to learn new information, connect with others, and even build intimacy and trust through sharing information that nurtures relationships, but it is in a shadow form because it is at the expense of someone else, with the intention to spread information at a lower vibration that may hurt someone. Through owning this part of ourselves we can choose a more healthy and conscious way to get our need for authentic connection met than having to take someone down with gossip or be in the know about trending stories in order to feel connected.

“We are at a basic crossroads between deepening the decency that comes from caring for each other and spreading the contagion of making anyone who is different into an enemy.”

This New Moon Is All About Creating Connection

This new moon will spark a greater desire for connection, curiosity, and communication. It amplifies the potential to authentically share our unique approaches or learn about something we are enthusiastic about. It can assist us in mentally processing through our feelings, opening to new perspectives, and expressing our major breakthroughs to others. We are able to understand and express more of how we feel and articulate this with ease. Ask yourself: Who am I called to connect with? What type of connections do I wish to nurture? What needs to be shared so that I can heal and grow? Who are the people in my life that can hold space for me to process? Where do I need to take more responsibility and ownership for what I have created in my relationships? Who might have the information that my soul needs to hear?

“Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.”

The Cosmic Weather

What’s notable about this new moon is that it’s not directly connected to any other planets. This can bring our attention to what we desire to create now. While the new moon does not aspect other planets, it does connect to the fixed star Aldebaran and two planetary bodies—Eris in Aries and Juno in Pisces.

This new moon is aligned with the fixed star Aldebaran. Aldebaran is the brightest star in the constellation Taurus and one of the brightest stars in the night sky. It is known as the “Eye of Taurus.” It is one of oldest documented constellations.

Aldebaran is one of the Four Royal Stars or Guardians of Heaven and is known as Archangel Michael’s star. He holds the sword of discernment and cuts through the illusion of the ego so that we may see the truth clearly. Aldebaran holds the vision for higher service and global leaders. He inspires the planning of world affairs that will support humanity as we evolve and the world changes.

The new moon is square Juno in the sign of Pisces. Juno teaches us that our loyalty must be to ourselves first and foremost. With Juno in Pisces this is a powerful opportunity to rededicate ourselves to our spiritual commitments and soul work and nurture our creativity. Through art and source connection we can retrieve more of our sovereignty and power.

This new moon is semi-square to Eris in Aries. Eris is a truth teller and speaks to the truth that others do not wish to acknowledge but that is necessary for our growth and evolution. Eris brings higher consciousness through interruption and often discord. Eris often speaks for those who don’t have a voice and have been left out or marginalized. Eris in this new moon chart invites us to be a sacred rebel and step into where we are being called to initiate truthful dialogue.

Venus enters the sign of Taurus right before this new moon. Venus in the sign of Taurus urges us to get real about what we desire that is tangible, connects us to our senses, and affirms our worth. This aspect reminds us to trust our felt body wisdom, seek quality over quantity, and connect to what brings us pleasure.

Mercury, the ruler of this lunation, is currently in retrograde in Taurus and conjunct the fixed star Algol. (See my lunar eclipse article with more information on Algol). Mercury is slowing down to station direct on June 3rd and is a square aspect to Saturn in this new moon chart. Saturn is slowing down to station retrograde on June 4th. This brings the energy of shifting directions, karmic consequences coming into focus, and a need to accept responsibility for our role in things and let go of what isn’t truly ours. For the past two years, Saturn in Aquarius has been highlighting the extreme polarity of the Aquarius archetype of the people vs. the elitist groups. We have seen many examples of the people speaking out for revolution and equality and demanding change. While those in positions of power strive to maintain authority and gain more control.

Ceres, the mother whose deep grief over the loss of her daughter Proserpina birthed our seasons, is conjunct Black Moon Lilith, the dark feminine that can surface in the shadow form of rage, in the sign of Cancer. This conjunction is highlighting issues around safety, security, mothers, grief, children, families, and breaking through toxic patterns in the family system. This conjunction was exact two days after the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. May we find the connections, the tools to heal from grief, and the solutions to bring needed changes to create safety, security, and reform from this horrific event.

“Connection is the energy that is created between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued – when they can give and receive without judgement.

The Invitation

This new moon invites us into a clearer understanding of our truth, trusting all that we know. We are invited to amplify our authentic voice in order to heal and initiate action. We are open to new ways of listening and perceiving information that deepen our abilities for the divine to express through us. We are asked to release the distractions and get real with what we want to create.

We have heard the expression that the pen is mightier than the sword. This new moon in Gemini reminds us of our power to deeply and meaningfully convey what our soul is calling for us to express and then to stand behind our truth. We are called to rise up. We can become a divine channel and healing force of good in this world. In order to do that, we must be able to see beyond judgment, beyond polarity, to a truth that serves a higher purpose than our ego, political party, or personal agenda.
