The full moon in 15°22′ of Pisces on September 7th (1:09 p.m. CDT) is a total lunar eclipse.
These cosmic waters bring a sense of renewal. They guide us toward closing out chapters and aid us in coming to a new understanding of our patterns so that we can make more conscious choices moving forward.
Eclipses are threshold moments.
They are catalysts for our growth and transformation.
Our emotional responses can unlock new doors of truth.
As old forms are dissolving, different paradigms are taking shape.
We discover what can no longer come with us into the next chapter of our lives.
What is particularly striking about this eclipse is that it is a Blood Moon lunar eclipse.
The moon will slip into earth’s shadow, shifting the color from silver to red. This eclipse will be visible across Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and much of Africa and Europe.
This lunar eclipse aligns with the North Node in Pisces. Eclipses that occur here tend to bring forth fate-driven moments and highlight powerful opportunities for spiritual growth, soul purpose, and future development.
Eclipse cycles occur approximately every 18-19 years. The last time we had a Pisces eclipse working with the North Node near this degree was on September 7, 2006.
This lunar eclipse heightens our emotional awareness and supports us in cleansing and purging anything that is not meant to go forward with us. Thinking back to that time, what was ending? What dreams were we tending to? How has our relationship to our spiritual realm evolved?
This lunar eclipse forms a trine to Jupiter in Cancer. Our sensitivity is amplified, and we may feel our emotions acutely—specifically, the feeling of overwhelm may be intensified. But this activation brings opportunity. We can expand our awareness to examine past behaviors, learn from our experiences, and make different choices.
We may feel a strong sense of being in a liminal space, where we know we are not going back to the old version of ourselves, but we’re also not clear about the new chapter that is emerging.
This is an important time to trust what feels right and lean into our intuitive knowing to direct us in the moment.
Saturn is now retrograding in the last degree of Pisces, covering the territory of spiritual lessons that were unfolding last May.
We face karmic consequences to guide us to expand our ability to give and receive love. We clarify what work needs to be done to bring a challenging cycle to completion.
Life may either feel like tough love or a deepening of our capacity to love at this time.
Eclipses bring us to choice points. We may be feeling discomfort from an awareness of what isn’t working, especially where we feel confined. These places of confinement reveal the shadow patterns that brought us into the lessons we needed to learn. Restriction can be a powerful teacher and can help us learn to shift our focus to what really matters. It is important to commit to living from our integrity and refining the routines that support sustainable growth. Our foundations can become shaky where we have been putting things off, but Saturn is helping us to clean out our old stuff, our old ways of being, and our old coping mechanisms so that we can build a new structure that feels authentic and resonates with who we are now.
Outdated patterns of disassociation, escapism, avoidance, addiction, or codependence come to light so that we can replace them with healthier habits.
The Archetype of Pisces
Pisces represents consciousness itself, our connection to source, and unity consciousness. Through this archetype, we discover what is truly meaningful. Pisces corresponds to truth, but not truth in the form of a philosophy; rather, it is the inherent connection that comes from source.
The evolutionary journey through Pisces also teaches us about surrender. This is a mystical process in which we begin to develop an ability to see through love’s eyes, accept things as they are, and live from compassion.
When we do this, we allow our lives to unfold by a divine plan. This eclipse helps us to deepen our connection to our spiritual practices and nurture a relationship to what is truly sacred and meaningful. We reflect on routines that need to be implemented, released, and refined to embody a higher form of love and deepen into self-compassion.
“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It’s a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.”
Pema Chödrön
Pisces is the sign of duality and shapeshifting, and is able to adapt and transform effortlessly through life’s challenges. This ability enables this sign to empathize with different perspectives and connect with others from all walks of life. Shapeshifting can be powerful can tapping into our imagination, creative inspiration and the dream world. But it is also through shapeshifting that we learn how to adapt to the expectations of others and to navigate survival and seek acceptance.
This cycle illuminates the ways in which we have been managing complex situations that are dimming us down or weighing heavy on our hearts.
We can cultivate the sense of safety and self-connection that allows us to express more of who we authentically are instead of our more disempowered default shapeshifting tendencies.
We are invited to attune to our emotions and surrender to the process of transformation that is seeking to dissolve the barriers to love, compassion, and healing. What needs to be forgiven, released, or healed so that we can move forward to live more fully in our hearts?
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
Rumi

The Invitation
This lunation offers powerful insights through the connection to our emotional realms and psychic senses. We flow from feeling. We move from instinct. When the lights go out, we can navigate through psychic sight. We lean into the unknown and explore what is there in order to learn from it.
We are asked to slow down to make space for feeling and connect to what our intuitive compass is guiding us toward.
In the last four-to-six months, we have been ending big cycles, seeing glimpses of new beginnings, and witnessing the instability and inscrutability of the liminal space in between. We awaken from disillusionment to face our fears and identify our shadow patterns so that we can clearly see how the unconscious parts of us do not support our evolution, allowing us to return to love. This eclipse guides us to tap into unknown realms, honor our feelings, and walk through the portal to new thresholds with mystical surrender, presence, and an open heart.
“The important thing is not to think much but to love much; and so do that which best stirs you to love.”
Teresa of Avila
