Annular Solar Eclipse in Libra Themes: Balancing and Liberation

The new moon in Libra (10 °04′) on October 2nd at 1:49 p.m. CDT is an annular solar eclipse.

This lunation is a powerful catalyst that guides us into new patterns regarding how we relate to others and supports us in moving into deeper sovereignty in how we show up for ourselves and our approach to partnerships

Solar eclipses are frequently associated with major endings and beginnings. The last time the solar eclipse was in this degree and sign was October 3rd, 2005. Thinking back to that time, were there any significant endings and beginnings? What was shifting in terms of our values, self-esteem, and patterns in our relationships?

South Node eclipses reveal circumstances and cycles that are well past their expiration dates. We can see where things have taken their course. We may discover that something has been eliminated from our lives and is no longer in line with our future goals.

We have been working with eclipse themes in the Aries-Libra polarity since July 17th, 2023. This is our last eclipse in Libra in this cycle. The South Node will continue through the final degrees of Libra until January 2025. For the next few months, we end any connections that do not honor us.

On October 11th, Pluto stations direct and makes its way through the final degrees of Capricorn. This will intensify themes of what is being dismantled and rebuilt in order to align with our evolving world. We will witness the shadow dynamics of power—the kind of power that seeks to manipulate or dominate. We may feel a sense of urgency to finish what isn’t working. We are guided to reflect on our own relationship to power and the ways we wish to live.

Libra as an Archetype

Libra symbolizes partnership, intimacy, equality, and diplomacy. This sign learns through relationships. Sometimes, through the exploration of connections and the world outside, they may find themselves out of balance or noticing where they have taken themselves out of the equation to accommodate the needs of others. Through this archetype, we learn to come back into balance and into a deeper resonance of what is authentic for us, and to live from our values. When we are living from a place of self-connection it is easier to make choices that are in alignment with our truth.

This cycle shows us where our equilibrium has been off in regard to our relationship patterns. Though the relationships that are built from an old paradigm will come to end, any connections that are set on solid ground invite real conversations about how we can show up differently to honor, value, and cherish those who matter most in our lives.

We Wrap up a Karmic Cycle

This solar eclipse brings closure around our soul contracts and karmic entanglements, offering a deeper understanding of what we need in our relationships, as the old models no longer fit with what we require. We assess what doesn’t work for us and where we need greater stability, so we can listen deeply to what is resonant and better aligned with our evolution. We have more awareness around the connections that provide nourishment and all that we are moving away from to live from a place of self-honor.

There is a duality to this point in time that is not only bringing closure to a situation in our personal lives, but also bringing a collective ending and choice point. Libra brings about divine justice, judgement, fairness and a balancing of the scales. Collectively, we are asked to consider the kind of world that we truly want to live in and how we can show up to participate in creating a world that is inclusive, fair, and just. We gain insight through karmic lessons that prepare us for a new start.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Martin Luther King

This Eclipse Calls Us Into Our Hearts

This eclipse chart holds a powerful water trine that connects us to our emotional bodies, our intuitive self, and healing our relationship to trust. The decisions that we make now must be accessed from our heart and soul. To do this, we must face the parts of ourselves that didn’t feel safe enough to reveal to others. This cycle can also bring emotional hardships and experiences that illuminate where we are not being met in a connected way, and we see more clearly what needs to be healed around our relationship to trust. Although it may appear that all options lead to discomfort of some kind, it is only through the process of stepping into this discomfort and flowing with feeling that will guide us into our intuition and emotional intelligence. It is only through the disruption that we can come to hear our heart’s deeper longing and be guided toward our greater liberation.

Crossroads of Choice

This solar eclipse is aligned with Black Moon Lilith, Hekate, Juno, Mercury and the South Node. This alignment guides us into an important crossroads and choice point in our lives.

Black Moon Lilith represents the wild, instinctive, creative, and feminine nature that stands up for what is right by natural law. She shows us where we are holding ourselves back because of the discomfort that can come with breaking up the status quo. We may witness her projections from others as raw, rebellious, grasping, unhinged, or unclaimed parts of our shadow side. What deep-seated issues have been revealed in our relationships? What have we been projecting on others that is really ours to claim? Black Moon Lilith guides us to seek our liberation through owning our power in relationships and advocating for what is fair and just. Or we may be called to walk away from situations and relationships where there are no mutual values of integrity, truth, honor, or consideration.

“A person isn’t who they are during the last conversation you had with them – they’re who they’ve been throughout your whole relationship.”

Rainer Maria Rilke

Hekate represents standing at a crossroads. We may be feeling like we are literally at a fork in the road. Our options may bring discomfort, but we must be willing to be uncomfortable enough to step into the unknown and be shaped into something new that is more in tune with the next stage in our lives. Hekate brings the gift of intuition and the ability to see the shadow as well as into the light. What arises is here for us to explore what previously had been concealed.

Juno teaches us about shadow loyalty, so that we can learn to commit to ourselves, put ourselves first, and recognize our true inner power. This goddess shows us how we approach partnerships and relationships along with the wisdom we gain from our past romantic experiences. We may have a pattern of default where we have a strong desire to create harmony in relationships, even if it compromises our self-worth. But we need to remember that it isn’t our responsibility to maintain the peace, especially if it makes us feel dishonored or shamed.

Mercury serves as the messenger allowing new guidance and insight to come through when we are able to soften and enter a place of quietness. We can see things from a new perspective when we create a bit more spaciousness to reflect on the situation. Something is unfolding that we can’t quite decipher through our logical mind, prompting us to surrender and trust the process. This alignment helps us to integrate the information we already know and to clearly articulate what is in our hearts.

The South Node offers awareness into how we approach relationships and brings a new understanding of our value into the next stage of our lives. We reflect on ways we have abandoned our needs in service of others’ comfort and can now understand more fully how our previous experiences teach us about ourselves. This is all in service of coming into balance and calling our energy back. We are invited to live beyond blame, shame and victim consciousness. The presence of the South Node offers a powerful clearing that washes away old patterns and ways of being in relationship so that we can reclaim our sovereignty.

“A wise woman wishes to be no one’s enemy; a wise woman refuses to be anyone’s victim.”

Maya Angelou

The Invitation

This solar eclipse guides us back into balance and into deeper resonance with our soul’s intention. We have an opportunity to evaluate our relationships and our needs and boundaries within them.

We release old forms of masking and shed outdated paradigms in our relationships so that we can foster soul connections and intimacy. We build our relationships from a place of fairness, justice, and honoring ourselves.

“Tear off the mask, your face is glorious.”

Jalal al-Din Rumi

We surrender what isn’t working and practice deep listening to call ourselves home. We are now guided from a place of spiritual courage, trust, and inner validation.
