Solar Eclipse in Aries: Trust Yourself

The new moon in 9° of Aries on March 29th (5:57 a.m. CDT) is a partial solar eclipse. Our spirit is igniting and beckoning us forward on new pathways. We are called to trust ourselves, rebirth ourselves, live from our intuitive knowing, and move ahead.

Eclipses are crossroads on our soul’s journey. Change is inevitable. The veil drops and we can see things as they are—and also see what isn’t serving our next steps of evolutionary growth.

“We must be willing to get rid of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.”

Joseph Campbell

This solar eclipse ushers us into new beginnings that will unfold over the course of a year. What has been previously held in our subconscious is revealed, allowing fresh insights to come into our conscious awareness. We look at the world from a different vantage point.

This event will be visible in parts of Europe, the eastern regions of Canada, the north-eastern regions of the United States, the north-western regions of Africa, the Balkans, and the northern regions of Russia.

This is the first solar eclipse of 2025. It also marks the end of an eclipse cycle that started on April 20, 2023, and continued until April 8, 2024. There won’t be another eclipse cycle on the Aries-Libra axis for another 18 years; the next one will begin in April 2043.

When one door closes, a new chapter emerges. We are ending something that began two years ago. Trust that what falls away is creating space with what is truly aligned with our soul’s intention.

In order to begin again, we must work through unfinished business and what has been left unresolved, bringing everything to completion. Over the next two weeks, we will continue to finalize and wrap things up.

Take time to grieve what has been lost. Tender emotions, a desire to protect those we care about, and how we create a sense of safety in the world are activated now. We are bearing witness to all that that we are feeling as we close this particular chapter of our lives.

We may be letting go of a dream we once held or noticing that we have lost the motivation toward something that we have been working on for a while. Something is emerging, but right now, we can’t quite see it clearly.

The last solar eclipse at a similar degree in Aries occurred on March 29, 2006. Thinking back to that time, what new beginnings were developing? What passions and goals were taking shape? Where were we called to individuate and evolve our sense of self?

Neptune Enters Aries

Neptune enters Aries 25 hours after the solar eclipse is exact. This is the first time it has been in this sign since 1861, and for the last 14 years, Neptune has been in the sign of Pisces. Collectively, this shift into Aries signifies a way of being in the world that strives for greater levels of independence and creative innovations.

Aries values action, advocacy, and personal agency. This combination dissolves the barriers of those in need and calls for us to take a stand for what matters most.

As soon as Neptune enters Aries, it will immediately conjunct Mercury. This alignment alters our self-perceptions, along with providing ideas toward what is possible. We are invited to bring compassionate understanding to our contemplations and interactions with others. We may be quick to defend our position or jump to conclusions about something without fully seeing the whole picture. What might look clear from our point of view may be perceived very differently by someone else.

We are awakening to new levels of who we are, and it is time to trust our own instincts in our pursuit of creative ideas or spiritual development. We may also become more aware of our relationship to passion. Where has the fire gone out? What sparks of inspiration are emerging? We must practice patience and discernment to tend to our flame for sustainable changes.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Lao Tzu

Conflict as Our Teacher

This cosmic weather brings an opportunity to heal in situations that trigger our emotional insecurity, but it also can bring tension. We may feel more easily frustrated, impatient, or defensive, and we might find we are protecting where we feel inadequate. The medicine is in cultivating our inner observer. How have we handled moments of conflict in our lives, currently and over the last two years? Are we dialing up the volume to feel a passion or purpose that we have been struggling to create? Do we feel easily victimized and quickly react to defend ourselves? Do we jump to conclusions about others and make assumptions about what was said that really wasn’t their intention? This cycle asks us to lead from our heart and bring compassion into our conversations. How can we lovingly direct our words and responses? How can we foster more heart-centered engagement in ourselves? What has the conflict we have been working through show us about ourselves?

“Love is the capacity to take care, to protect, to nourish. If you are not capable of generating that kind of energy toward yourself – if you are not capable of generating that kinds of energy toward yourself – if you are not capable of taking care of yourself, of nourishing yourself, of protecting yourself – it is very difficult to take care of another person.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

Venus and Mercury Align

Venus and Mercury are in retrograde, and both within a few degrees of each other, tracing a path over the Aries cusp. Both Mercury and Venus will be journeying a few degrees from each other for a full month, from early March to early April, which is rare. All of these elements signify the end of a zodiacal cycle and new cycle dawning. We are invited to tune into our inner landscapes—we are able to hear more of our intuitive knowing when we make space to deeply listen. As these signs move back into Pisces and forward again into Aries, we cross thresholds of deep wells of emotion and imagination into new initiations and new directions.

Courage to Live Our Truth

Aries energy teaches us to live from inner validation and the power to be unapologetically ourselves. In its highest expression, it radiates an enthusiasm for life that inspires others. Aries finds strength in being in the moment, moving on instinct, and can access a higher level of intuition from this place. There is a visceral impulse to engage in our lives through a connection with both the environment and our experiences. Aries desires the freedom to choose and react in whatever ways feels imperative. In its shadow form, Aries can demonstrate immaturity and be a bit too self-focused to the point where it may be narcissistic. They may instigate conflict to feel alive if they are unhappy with how they are living. The need for freedom can become the ultimate goal, losing sight of a higher vision.

“You have to decide who you are and force the world to deal with you, not with its idea of you.”

James Baldwin

This eclipse sparks our desire and summons the courage to live authentically. We are asked to take a leap of faith and start something new, and to find the bravery to begin without having to know all the details.

This is also an important moment to reflect on how we have dealt with self-trust, intuition, and courage as we navigated through this two-year eclipse cycle. Courage isn’t about heroic performances. Courage is about boldly following our own truths. Honoring our intuitive knowing takes a healthy sense of self and a willingness to act with gut instinct. We live from our inner validation, and we learn as we go. Our life experiences teach us to reflect on our actions and consider how our choices impact others. As we mature in this area, we can strengthen our inner leader. We are being called forward now to dare to be ourselves and to heal the places within us where we have been taught that who we are was wrong. When have we been told that who we are isn’t strong? Where have we betrayed ourselves? What identities have we let go of? The only way we can progress is by incorporating the needed transformations that allow us to live from greater authenticity.

The Invitation

This eclipse cycle offers a cosmic reset. We trust our intuitive knowing to guide us forward into the unknown, embark on new ventures, and let go of the things we have outgrown. We cultivate the courage to take bold action. It is safe to begin again. We are discovering higher levels of independence that are both powerful and consistent with our values. We are also asked to be gentle with ourselves and give ourselves time to implement the changes that we are initiating. The seeds that we are planting now will take root and develop over the course of the next six to twelve months.

Although we may feel urgency for progress and impatience to create momentum, all we need to do in this moment is be willing to start something new or take a step toward inspired action. When we look back a year from now, we’ll be able to see that we are in a very different place both collectively and individually. This moment is guiding us into the emergence of a different way of living and being. By tapping into our hunger and desire for something greater, and taking an empowered risk, we can move into the next stage of evolutionary growth to uncover our true potential.

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.”

Golda Meir
