Full Moon in Capricorn: Reclaiming Our Power

The full moon in 29° 08′ of Capricorn on Friday, July 21st (5:17 a.m. CDT) initiates us into new dimensions of personal transformation.

As this lunation is in the final degree of Capricorn, it emphasizes endings and closing old chapters. What was brought to the surface during the last full moon cycle we now meet with bravery and can be brought to completion.

This is the second of two full moons in this specific polarity. The first was on June 21st at 1° of Capricorn-Cancer.

It is rare to have two consecutive full moon cycles in the same sign. The last time this occurred was in March-April of 2019 in the Libra-Aries polarity.

Thinking back 19 years ago to this time, what old structures were dismantling? What new beginning was emerging? This lunation marks a significant upgrade and transformation in the Capricorn-Cancer area of our lives.

This cycle arrives in between our past and future and asks that we get real about how we are feeling through this process of metamorphosis. We must face our psychological attachments to security in order to get in touch with the change that is evolving within us and to rebuild a new level of inner security.

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

Joseph Campbell

This lunation corresponds with the new moon in Capricorn on January 11, 2024. The last 6 months have brought a lot of tension and feelings of restriction within us.

It may have felt like there was no end in sight, but this cycle brings clarity, creative solutions, and innovation to move through what we have been holding and to receive what we most need.

The way through this may not be what we expect or the timing we desire, but if we are open to possibility and different ways of seeing, answers will be offered. Expecting the unexpected will help us release our tight grip on what is familiar and outdated. Paying attention to the messages being offered through synchronicity, intuitive messages, and in dreams will also be helpful. This moment brings opportunities for big release, spiritual awakening, and breakthroughs.

The Archetype of Capricorn

Capricorn is associated with our goals, ambitions, and drive. Through this sign we learn how the construction of our lives can support our growth and to develop a grounded place in work and society.

Capricorn guides us to develop our inner authority and live from our integrity. We learn through the consequences of our actions so that we might live in alignment with any natural parameters, limitations, or boundaries and initiate a spiritual maturity that helps us to develop our sovereignty. Capricorn energy can feel dense and heavy at times, especially when we focus too much on rules or resisting outside authority rather than focusing on what our situation is here to teach us. We can be so fearful of not getting things right or making wrong choices that we eclipse our own intuitive voice.

This full moon calls us to release any fear, guilt, or shame we are holding so that we can listen to our inner authority.

“Spiritual growth requires the development of inner knowing and inner authority. It requires the heart, not the intellect.”

Gary Zukav

To best work with this energy, we are invited to cultivate the strengths of its opposite sign of Cancer. By embracing our emotions, trusting our intuition and listening to what we need to nourish our souls, we can build a foundation to support us in living within our integrity.

Only by moving into new consciousnesses and new paradigms and shifting away from old structures and old ways will we be able to deeply listen to our inner authority and decide what is true for us.

Change is Imminent

This full moon brings clarity and confirmation to what needs to be completed and closed out so that we can move forward in our lives.

Our shadow allegiance to old systems and formations of power that are being dismantled is being activated now. It is imperative that we notice this and let go of these inner power dynamics that try to manage and control everything. If we operate from an addiction to accomplishment or a compulsion to have the upper hand, we lose sight of our agency and what is real. Our culture has conditioned us to feel that our worth comes through our productivity, societal roles, or outside validation. While it can be fulfilling to accomplish something of value, we must learn other ways to show up in our lives that are rooted in more self-connectedness and less in shame and seeking validation. The more we cling to these old notions, the more we will resist our ability to receive nourishment, fulfillment, and joy. By choosing to not feel consumed by where we are restricted, we see what is most important and how different frameworks can support our creative inspiration. We learn to create new ways of being that are more conscious, connected and healthy.

“When we resist change, it’s called suffering. But when we can completely let go and not struggle against it, when we can embrace the groundlessness of our situation and relax into its dynamic quality, that’s called enlightenment.”

Pema Chödrön

What is illuminated at this time shows up in our deep, unhealed patterns. There can be a lot of discomfort now, as we may not want to feel what is arising or to be with what we don’t want to face. This cycle serves as a reality check about what we sense is changing, but it also supports us in recalibrating to acclimate to this shift. We may feel intensity and pressure around the timing of what is ending or seek to control and manage the events and people in our lives instead of trusting in the bigger picture of what is alchemizing.

Regardless of what is unfolding in our lives, can we choose to meet the moment from our liberation? Can we surrender fears and worst-case scenarios and work to co-create a future that feels empowered and aligned with our integrity?

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them”

Maya Angelou

The next two weeks support proactive steps to complete necessary work. Change is imminent, and this is an important time to think about what needs to be worked through and how we can take care of ourselves through this bigger process of transformation.

What Am I Responsible For?

This cycle highlights themes around boundaries, our roles in society/home, and responsibility.

The full moon serves as a point of reset that illuminates our responsibilities and commitments so that we can do the work to bring this cycle to completion. If we can take ownership of our behaviors and the consequences of our choices, we can come to a better understanding of any patterns and can rewire and forge a new pathway. Through reflection and by observing some of the more wounded parts of ourselves (without shame), we can find a lot of insight and develop the inner strength to guide ourselves through the next steps of our unknown journey.

“Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered.”

Michelle Obama

We may feel impatient, restless, or rebellious with this cosmic weather, but it is important to learn all we can from the current structures so that we don’t just tear everything down and rebuild the same old lessons. We can understand so much by cultivating discipline and trusting the timing of the cycles in our lives.

Capricorn is associated with the Elder. As we mature, we move into Eldership and are guided to take greater responsibility for the planet and the next generations and create a system that is sustainable beyond our lifetime.

This lunation invites us to connect to what really matters for us, for our future, and for the planet and to work in right-relationship with this guidance.

We must commit to noticing where we truly have energy for something and where we don’t. We also need to notice what is ours to work with and where we are guided to take discerning action and commit to taking responsibility.

The Invitation

This lunation prompts us to clear our karmic contracts. We redefine what security and safety look like and challenge old strategies from our cultural conditioning that we thought we had to uphold and maintain in order to be valid and accepted in our society.

We awaken to the stress and pressure we have been under so that we can let go and learn ways to create and be that resonate with our soul.

While we can’t control the behaviors of others or the timing, we can choose how to meet the moment. It’s an important time to reflect on our relationship to power—both where we feel empowered and where we feel disempowered—so that we can surrender what isn’t ours to hold and open to creative solutions. By understanding the construction and parameters of the cycle we are in, we can take in all the lessons of this time and create something new.

“There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”

C. S. Lewis

This cosmic weather seeks to create stability and to create a more solid foundation for not only our personal transformation but also that of the collective.

Events that are arising are working to shift consciousness and help us to reclaim our agency. We get real with how we are feeling on our journey and flow with what is dissolving. We discover new realms and new gifts that are worth our time and attention and which will aid in the rebuilding of our structures.
